This is the third deployment storybook I've purchased. This one was just ok. Daddy leaves, and throughout each season as the little girl continues in her activities with her mother, she says, "I wish Daddy was here", and Mommy says "Me too." Then at Christmas time, he comes home. That's the depth of the story. I was hoping for a little bit more. So far our favorite has been "Lily Hates Goodbyes" by Jerilyn Marler. My DH is now on his 8th deployment, and I have three little kids 6 and under. Deployments are part of their lives in a major way. I felt like all this book did was remind my kids that they miss Daddy. It didn't touch on what they're feeling, what the deployment experience is like, positive coping strategies. It's a little too sweetly simple.Product details

I Wish Daddy Was Here Katherine DeMille 9781607998587 Books Reviews
Serena loves her daddy. When he comes home from work they read books, play games and play outside. One day he must go away because he is in the military. Her mommy promises they will do fun things together while daddy is away. In the spring they go to the zoo. In the summer they go to the beach. In the fall they play outside. In the winter they read a book. Serena is very sad until she hears her name. It's daddy and he has come home.
Kids will love this colorfully illustrated book and Serena romps through all of the season waiting for her daddy to come home. This compassionate story helps young readers cope with a loved one who is away in the military.

My grandson is 2. This book is great for him since his dad is deployed. Have a great day today.
This book has help me teach my daughter about all the things we need to do before Daddy comes home. As well we are able to discuss and validate how we miss him. Great quick read for deployment.
This book definitely helped her express her emotions, and it gave her the understanding that it was okay to have whatever feelings she was or is experiencing.
Helpful book
The picture colors are a little odd but a simple read good for a young child
Very cute book. Short (which is perfect for my 2 year old) does not talk as much about why daddy is leaving as I was hoping for. I still had a ton of WHY WHY WHY questions after this.
